How can Neal Peart be ranked by Blender magazine as one of the worst lyricists in rock history?
With all of the power ballads and cliché “let’s get drunk and laid” schlock in the hair band genre, how can this rag dare to rank Neal Peart, or Sting for that matter, on the list of worst rock lyricists? If Rush isn’t one’s “cup of tea”, that’s one thing, but to say that Neal Peart can’t write is beyond ridiculous, it’s insane.

Alright, as I said, Rush might not be everyone’s cup of tea, and you might even feel that they are over-rated, but that still doesn’t mean that Peart is one of the worst lyricists. Do you mean to tell me that somehow, the lyrics writers for Poison, Warrant, Motley Crue, etc… are somehow better than Neil Peart? Even in Neil’s less popular sci-fi/fantasy phase, which many of us actually appreciate btw, he was a better storyteller than any of those schmucks.
I emailed Blender after that dumb article & defended Neil.
The lyrics they (& many others) chose to target are lyrics he’d written as a young man 30+ *Years* ago. Critics Always target his sci-fi/fantasy phase. He’s moved on greatly since then.
As someone else put it- Blender= a bunch of hipsters trying to get a rise.
